"Nana" is Dylan's newest word. That's what he wanted for breakfast today. Let's see if I can make a list of other words...

UP (his first word)
MOMMY (his favorite word no doubt, which has changed from "mama")
DADDY (sometimes he just says that whenever he sees anyone on TV)
BOOK (which is usually included in his frequent raps "bookabookabookabooka")
GOODY (he's trying to say "Good Night")
CAR (when we walk down the sidewalk he points to the parked cars "Car Car Car Car")
ARBOL (Spanish for "tree", it usually sounds more like "Abbey")
AG (he's trying to say "Agua", which is easier that "water")
MI (Milk)

He's very good at the first syllable, but not so interested in the rest of the word.

Dylan celebrated his first birthday last Sunday, and is walking all over the place now. Climbing stairs is a new fascination for him, and his obsession with technology continues (your cell phone or camera, remote controls, etc).

We've more or less given up trying to update this blog regularly, partly because every time you use a computer with Dylan around, he wants to press the buttons. The only thing you can do is find Elmo on Youtube and that entertains him for a while.
But Daniella (and family & friends that visit) posted some photos on Facebook. Try finding a tagged photo of him on Facebook, and then you can scroll through all of them (from newborn to 1 year old).

Dylan in Springtime (7mos)

In just a couple of short months, Dylan has gone from looking like a little baby...

...to looking more like a little boy.

Every morning Dad puts him in his Jumperoo while he gets ready for work.

Look closely and you'll see Dylan's one toof. He uses it to chomp on spoons.

Dylan's mom here. Our little boy has hit the six month mark. A lot of things going on. Solids have entered the picture: squash, carrots, bananas, peach, baby cereals, sweet potatoes, and peas. Oh my! He's starting to cry in the morning when I leave for work (bad) and is a lot clearer about whether he's bored versus hungry (good). His babbling now has a lot more variety including an ongoing monologue that our friends The Flanagans likened to a redneck auctioneer. (Note to self: record, post as mp3)

As for motion, Dylan does this move now where he goes into a little frog pose and then pumps his arms like he's about to jump onto a lily pad. He doesn't jump though. He stays put or rolls backward. The latter is done with terrifying efficiency. He usually winds up under the furniture or in the bathroom in record time much to our chagrin.

Dylan and the Deep Blue Eyes

Dylan is attempting to speak in sentences. He is aware that his mother and father seem to rattle on forever so rather than sticking to his patented mini coos, he's going for longer "ahohaaooohaaaaaaooooooooooooooo" (seriously, it's about a minute of ooo's) type phrases. Usually, these are punctuated by a yawn. Which means that Dylan's first pseudo sentence is either, "I'm tired" or "I'm bored" or "I'm tired AND bored." Baby ennui. Awesome.

Little D's abuelita loves to mess with her only daughter. Her latest thing is to declare that Dylan has "deep blue eyes" with a sly, sidelong glance while I mutter under my breath about eye color being undecided and that we'll see what they look like in 6 months. Or a year.

Not for nothing, but it seems a bit unfair to have to wait and see what color your child's eyes will be. NO FUN.

Yesterday, my cousin Mane (also Dylan's godmother) came by with her daughter Adriana. Mane declared Little D's eyes gray and sent me photos this morning as proof.

Dylan has no comment.

Dylan's mom here. I didn't really think our baby was too big until I saw some pre-Turkey day photos. Look at 'em cheeks! And fauxhawk!

Yesterday I accidentally took him to a November mom's group (don't ask) and he looked at all the babies with eyes full of hungry curiosity. Or was it just plain hunger? Hard to tell. He was about three times their size. The new mothers looked terrified.

Our pediatrician thought we might be over-stuffing him so we've been trying to supplement him less and get more naps going. Don't want him to take after his insomniac mother. So far the Dylan diet is going pretty well, he doesn't seem too angry about it and it's definitely helping his GERD.

Dylan looks plump like a turkey, but we decided not to eat him for Thanksgiving this year.

For Halloween, we put Dylan in his bearsuit and wheeled him to the parade in Park Slope. He was hibernating most of the time, but everyone still thought he was cute.

We also took him to the Botanical Gardens in his outfit:

It's hard to believe that Dylan is already 5 weeks old! He's growing up so fast that it seems he's changing his looks with each photo we take.

We took him to the doctor this weekend and found out...
* He now weighs 10 lbs 12 oz
* He is 21.5 inches long

Last Thursday 'Uncle Bryan' came to visit while he was in town from Maine, and of course he brought his camera with him. He took some really nice photos of the Dylanator (Thanks Bryan!!):

Sure, he looks like a little angel in these photos, but at night the real terror begins when he starts crying...

...which makes Daddy very tired.

We took Dylan out to the park for the first time this weekend. Here's a picture of him in his carseat...

Then he got tired out and laid in his crib for a while:

I also recorded a silent movie clip in the hospital. At one point it looks like Dylan puts his hand in front of the camera as if to say "No photos please".

Meet Dylan Sebastian Joseph (aka The Dylanator)...

Born: 9/13/2008 at 5:37pm
Length: 20.5 inches
Weight: 7 lbs 9 oz

After a long Saturday in the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dylan finally said hello to the world with loud cries! He was soon calmed (I think he recognized the sound of his dad's voice, and clung tightly to a finger with his little hand).

After getting all cleaned up and visiting the hosptial nursery, Dylan and his chubby cheeks came to visit mom in her hospital room:

After a couple days of sleeping, Dylan started opening his eyes more and even smiling a bit. On Wednesday the 17th, mom and Dylan were discharged from the hospital and we all went home to Brooklyn.
